Life can become overwhelming. Anxiety, depression, relationship difficulties, family conflict, grief, trauma, parenting challenges, or major life changes can leave you feeling stuck and unsure of what to do next. Counseling can provide a place to understand what is happening, address the issues that are getting in the way, and develop practical steps toward meaningful and lasting change.
I'm Kenny Spansel, a Licensed Professional Counselor Supervisor (LPC-S) providing Christian counseling in Gulfport and throughout the Mississippi Gulf Coast. I work with adults, adolescents, couples, and families facing a wide range of emotional, behavioral, relational, and life challenges. My goal is to provide a counseling environment where you can speak openly, better understand the difficulties you are facing, and develop practical tools for moving forward.
My approach to counseling is compassionate, practical, and evidence-based. Rather than simply managing symptoms, I want to help clients understand underlying patterns, strengthen relationships, develop healthier ways of responding to life's challenges, and build changes that can continue long after counseling ends.
I am a graduate of Reformed Theological Seminary, where I earned master's degrees in Marriage and Family Therapy and Counseling & Biblical Studies. This background allows me to integrate sound clinical counseling with a Christian worldview for clients who desire faith to be part of the counseling process. Christian counseling is always offered according to the client's preferences and goals.
My counseling approach can be summarized by the word STAND:
Stabilize — Address immediate concerns and establish a strong foundation for counseling.
Treat — Identify the issues contributing to distress and use appropriate therapeutic interventions to address them.
Apply — Practice new perspectives, skills, and strategies within counseling so they can be used in everyday life.
Navigate — Work through real-life challenges as clients begin putting what they have learned into practice.
Develop — Strengthen healthy patterns so positive changes become increasingly natural and sustainable.
Seeking counseling does not mean that everything in life has gone wrong. Sometimes it simply means recognizing that something needs to change and deciding that you do not have to figure it out alone.
If you are looking for a Christian counselor in Gulfport or along the Mississippi Gulf Coast, I would welcome the opportunity to talk with you about what you are experiencing and whether I may be a good fit for your needs. In-person counseling is available in Gulfport, and secure tele-health counseling is available throughout Mississippi.
